Chess Tourney organized at Don Bosco School Trasi. The School under the able administration of the Principal Rev. Fr. Maxim D’souza successfully hosted the District level CBSE and ICSE School Chess Tournament on behalf of Associations of ICSE & CBSE Schools (AICS).
There were 40 teams from 21 Schools participated, meticulously in the chess tourney that was being held for the first time in Kundapura Taluka. Madhava Kripa School from Manipal emerged winners in the Under-17 Category while Little Rock Indian School marched the top place in the Under-14 category.
The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Derick Pinto, Managing Director of Derik’s Chess School. In his speech he urged the students to take chess seriously as it is the King of Mental games and the human mind is stronger than any other creature on earth.
Mr. Prasanna Rao, the Administrator of Derik’s Chess School was the Guest of Honor and also the Chief Arbiter of the tournament. The tournament was brought to a fitting finale with the valedictory ceremony. Mrs. Myrtle Lewis, Retired Principal of St. Mary’s Central School, Udupi presented the trophies to the winners and the runners up.
Fr. Leo Pereira, the Rector in his Presidential remark challenged the students to use the skills of chess for excelling in studies and for nation building and protection of environment. The game of Chess makes you alert, helps you to think and to imagine the various possible moves one can make. It’s a great game of patience and tolerance, keeping one on feet right till he found check mate. Likewise, Life to gives us many opportunities, various possibilities and obstacles to face as we go along. What is important is to be alert and find the various possibilities to face the obstacle and keep moving till the end. Having wished the children the very best the tournaments began for the day.
