“Life doesn’t make any sense without interdependence. We need each other, and the sooner we learn that, the better for us all.” — Erik Erikson
Being aware of the importance and need for mental health and wellness for students, the School organized a workshop for all the staff members including the non teaching staff on 17th July 2021 in the School auditorium. Mrs. Rakshitha N. J., the School Counselor and Wellness Teacher facilitated the half day workshop and animated the teachers. She has a Masters degree in Clincal Counselling and Psychology and is currently pursuing Graduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills from Play Therapy International, Uckfield, United Kingdom.
The program was initiated with a formal inauguration by the School Principal Rev. Fr. Maxim D’Souza. During his address, he lauded the initiative of Mrs. Rakshita of making the Staff part of the School Wellness Program and thus creating a Mental Health Department in the School. He stressed that, during the pandemic, when students are at home, we need to reach out to the students and help them to take care of their mental health.
The workshop consisted of introducing the place of play therapy and counseling in helping students who need special help. The resource person used interactive activities and power point presentations to make the participants aware of how to intervene when they encounter situations of problems among students. The teachers benefitted immensely during the program. Several teachers voiced their deepest appreciation for making them aware about the role of play therapy and counseling in helping students.
